Cabarete in the Dominican Republic is definitely for thrill-seekers. Well known for its watersports (especially on Kite Beach) and other activities, it's well worth slotting into your Dominican Republic itinerary.
What Is Cabarete Known For?
Cabarete is known for being the centre of aquatic sports in the Dominican Republic. Each year, it hosts several professional competitions due to its optimal waves and wind speed.
In particular, you’ll find tourists and competitors windsurfing, kite surfing and regular surfacing on Cabarete’s many beaches.
Located in the Puerto Plata province, the resort town attracts thousands each year because of its waters.
The Cabarete Beaches
Essentially, each beach has a different activity that you can take part in. Choose which sport you’d like to practise and join the crowd on the appropriate beach.
Kite Beach, Cabarete
As you can probably guess, Kite Beach is all about kitesurfing. Only 2km from the main town, this famous Cabarete beach is known for its wind and waves. Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, there are facilities for lessons or to practise your skills.
The area is also home to Kite Beach Hotel, only 2 minutes from the white sands. With plenty of activity to occupy you during the day, the hotel also boasts a great nightlife.
Encuentro Beach
Slightly further from the town than the above, Encuentro Beach is still only 4km away. This is not only the most popular beach in Cabarete but in the Caribbean! Whilst many come here to practise a whole range of water sports, it is also great for lounging and people-watching!
La Boca
Enjoy the tropical weather and take a bit of a longer stroll by visiting La Boca Beach. 7km away, is known for wakeboarding, unlike the other beaches in the area. This definitely proves that you can practise all kinds of aquatic sports in Cabarete!
Things To Do In Cabarete
There are plenty of things to do in Cabarete if you’ve had enough surfing for the day. Just be aware that the whole area is heavily focused on outdoor activities. So, if you’re looking for a relaxing trip, Cabarete might not be for you.
Enjoy The Waterfalls
That's right, the coastlines don't have all the beautiful waters. You can take part in a hiking tour up to the dramatic falls! That way, you won't miss anything the Dominican Republic countryside has to offer.
The area is very secluded with blue clay surrounding it, perfect for nourishing your skin.
If you’re happy to go further afield, then spend a day at the 27 waterfalls located up the coast. Limestone pools and slides await you around each corner. Enjoy it on your own or go on a guided tour to learn even more about the fascinating phenomenon.
El Choco National Park
Staying closer to the town we have El Choco National Park which is definitely worth visiting in Cabarete. Only a 15-minute walk away, this is another great opportunity to take in the sublime nature on offer.
Here, you can do a wide selection of activities. Visit the lagoons, go on one of the nature trails or take up horseback riding! After something more peaceful? Simply take part in some animal watching!
Time To Relax!
After a few days of hiking or surfing, your body will likely be in need of rest. Thankfully, Cabarete is home to plenty of luxury spas. Get a message, enjoy the sauna and take some time for yourself!
Pamper yourself with some nail and hair treatments and feel like a new person when you leave. Prices can also be relatively cheap if you’re travelling on a budget.
Have Some Delicious Food And Take In The Nightlife
Even though Cabarete is on the smaller side, there are plenty of places to eat and try some authentic Caribbean cuisine. Plus, many of these places also offer a great night of entertainment as well.
Whether you want to boogie the night away, listen to some live music or just have a cocktail or two, it’s all on offer in Cabarete.
From BBQs to smoothies, waffles to soup, ensure you’ve tried all the popular food in the Dominican Republic on your holiday!
Though Punta Cana’s beaches are globally renowned, Cabarete’s give them a run for their money. This is a great location if you’re looking for a more active holiday in this tropical paradise!
