From December to February, the temperature is between 20-25 degrees Celsius, or 68-75 degrees Fahrenheit. If that’s too chilly for you, then in October, November and March it can reach 27-28 degrees!

At night time, the warmth drops slightly to around 20 degrees. But that's still very warm for any time of year in many other locations.

If you’re thinking of visiting during February, go for the end of the month. This is when their Independence Day and there's an even larger party. They’ll be masks, costumes and a whole lot of colour!

Located in the Samaná in the north of the country is the Sanctuary of Humpback Whales. The tropical weather is very attractive to the beautiful creatures and they come in their thousands between January and April.

A huge tourist attraction, the best location to see the whales is the Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort. Here, a short shuttle ride will take you to the boats, ready to give you a glimpse at the whales.

What’s even better about the Samaná waters is that they’re off-limits except for whale-watching boats. That means the animals are very comfortable in the area, giving you the best chance of seeing them.

Found only a few miles from La Romana, a huge network of caves lies beneath the surface. This is a fantastic place to explore during the Dominican Republic winter.

The native Taino people inhabited the Cueva de las Maravillas, and it's now considered a sacred location. These ancient people inundated the walls with pictographs and petroglyphs and are a fascinating thing to see. Discover their history through their intriguing and awe-inspiring etchings.

Parque Nacional del Este is a big draw on the island due to its beauty and UNESCO World Heritage status.
